Naomi Land is Riding to Cure Cancer and needs your support!
“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take…
but by the moments that take our breath away.”
I am excited to be selected in the team to take part in Tour De Cure’s 2013 Signature Tour where we will be ‘Riding to Cure Cancer’. The Tour will start from Adelaide, cross three states and end in Canberra, a ride of 1538km. Our team of 60 riders and 20 support crew from across all parts of Australia will not only raise vital funds to help cure cancer but will share our cancer awareness message to men, women and children across the many communities we visit. All in 10 days! We signed up as individuals but as one team we will ‘ride to cure cancer’. See below for the route and elevation levels.
My fundraising goal for this year’s Tour De Cure is even greater – I aim to raise over $25,000 – and I really need your help to meet this challenge, especially as I am from the small community of Bowen. No matter how small a community we come from, we can make a difference and my challenge is nothing in comparison to the challenge that so many children and adults have to face 24 hours a day once diagnosed with cancer. I feel blessed to be part of such an important cause. I chose to take this on to be less selfish and to give to those in need when I can. I am willing to give my time and efforts to this amazing community event. I have joined the team with a clear vision to inspire the Australian community, raise awareness and action against cancer and to cure cancer by funding vital research support and prevention projects.
‘We share the same dream; we are committed to this journey. The more people we enrol in this fight, the greater our chance of victory”
On the upcoming 2013 Signature Tour, myself and fellow team members will share our “Be Fit; Be Healthy; Be Happy” cancer awareness message with over 7,500 men, women and children across the communities visited. Healthy habits and lifestyle choices are vital to cancer prevention and we want to share the message.
We will meet some incredible characters along the way and experience communities across Australia many don’t get to see. We will take every opportunity to raise cancer awareness across communities we visit on tour. Particularly important are our visits to regional communities, just like yours, given cancers shocking statistics.
This will be a very special journey for me as I share inspiration, hope and draw even more motivation from those I meet. There is a saying among Tour de Cure participants to help us pull through when the challenge becomes tough: ‘You can’t choose when you have cancer so we ride on, together, no matter what’. We are a team on this journey and with a focus on what matters we will have an incredible experience and make a difference.
I am committed to the required training and will take time away from family and work in order to be part of this team. My training will be intense with many weeks of riding 300-400+ kilometres on the bike. I appreciate all support to help with my serious fundraising efforts.
Please help support my efforts this year with a tax-deductible contribution to the Tour De Cure. You may make a donation on-line (credit card or EFT) via the link above, or send a cheque directly to me. Please let me know if you’d like to be part of the journey or take up a great value-for-money Sponsor Package. I will commit to supporting you in any way I can to fulfil my commitments to you as a sponsor or supporter.
The courage and strength needed to battle cancer gives me hope and inspiration for the Tour De Cure. Together, we can make a difference! Remember – there is no finish line until we find a cure.
Warm regard and many thanks,
Naomi Land
