Tough day on the bike

image1Yes it was like ground hog day! Last your without bike 5 week leading into tour! This year I was again without my road bike for 5 weeks leading up. First day back on my bike. Excited and nervous and so much traffic!  How do they do it! Started the day at 4.15am and just about to go to bed.

Day 1 today was much like day 1 last year! Blowing a gale, horizontal rain and bloody freezing. All in all not a very pleasant day on the bike. We were all wet and tired and tying to keep everyone together. That would have to be one of the second toughest days I have had on Tour de Cure. Although we always say “that the worst day on the bike is still better than the best day on Chemo” Yes that is right. I know a few people going through the constant pain of chemo and the effects on the family. It takes it’s toll. I see it as a small gesture I can do to help.

Interestingly enough tonight they spoke about the immune system and how we can rid cancer through a immune treatment! I believe the more natural approaches we can make in our lives the better people can cope and the more healthy we can all live. All we have to do is make a few changes in our lives. Let’s learn from the Be Fit, Healthy and Happy message. We can’t eliminate it but we can change so many parts of our lives.

I am inspired on my first tour ride my a man who has been through cancer so many times and so fortunate to listen to his story from his wife last night as well! She is amazing! She not only was a rock for her very young children but a rock and there for her husband as well. She would look after them during the day and visit him in hospital at night! Wow what an amazing family with so much strength between them.

Today on the bike was ugly, and was a challenge. I was fortunate enough to have a your school of the air female teacher in my team. It was great to go back to my purest form today and be there to get her through the day! Her first tour and come from Mount Isa and not been on the bike for very long. She struggled and second guessed herself but it was great to see her stick with it and roll into Victor Harbour this afternoon. She has made such a major achievement on such a great day and honour to help her through the pain as I have gone through many times and not give up.

Great end to a day and ready for bed.

Sending loads of love and hugs
