Day 1
Wow I am blown away by the generosity and kindness of the world we live in. I received an amazing donation from Daryl Tuttle on the day before my ride and then tonight I logged in to find a large sum of money from Pring Rural Wow Wow Wow. Thank you guys! Thanks Chris Land Also who has backed me from the start and another one to donate a large sum of money. You all give me strength and motivation when times are tough!
A huge few days, nerves, excitement, cold, wet and out of my comfort zone. I arrived in Adelaide and went to a clinical Pilate’s class with Mark and we rode Mt Lofty easy in the fog with a little rain as wanted to experience Adelaide, after that toured the beachers which are a little different to ours on the NQ coast.
Then into the Tour. So many people, knowing no one in a room of over 100 on the first evening briefing before dinner- I wasn’t very confident. It was good to get into the support people and what is what. We watched the video of where the money goes to again and last year’s tour as well which still makes me a little teary.
My roomy last night was our fundraising and media organiser so the alarm was set for a 4am start after falling asleep last night at midnight with the adrenalin running through my body. So early start and if anyone saw me on sunrise was very cold and nervous. So after touring the beachers on the way out of town started to settle down even though still quite out of my comfort zone.
The story’s and people are just heart touching. I am enjoying every moment and trying to keep away from my phone during the day to keep in the moment. It is quite easy when you just relax and consciously make an effort to be in the moment. I couldn’t take photo’s of the serenity but as my little man say’s take a photo in my brain to appreciate this beautiful country and people.
We had a king of the mountain -time trail in which the results are not yet realised. Not that I am competitive but I do know my legs where burning riding past the guys. Haha We rode 1100 meters of Altitude today and 100km which was pretty good on the first day. We rode into Victor Harbor at 2pm and I joined the camp Quality kids. One took a liking to me and her sister had been through cancer treatment earlier. It was great to play snakes and ladders with them and get our face painted. She thought we should be sisters. Made me feel special and young!
We all have jobs to do and our was washing cars but the boys took them to the car wash. So I help the cook shop. Another of my favourite pastimes. He thought I should be his assistant every night. I could handle that job.
Then we had our dinner and guest speaker was Sebastian from 100things.com.au. I saw him on the television many times so knew a little of what he was doing. Some people call him strange but he made me cry ( I guess that’s not hard!). He is doing the 100 things in life he always wanted to do. One of his things was $100,000 for camp quality and was up to $94,000. The tour de cure gave them $5000 and I think there may have been another Thousand after the night finished. He is a very moving giving person with no money but amazing personal experience and a rich life in which many lack. Sometimes things stand in our way of achieving or doing things in life that are fulfilling. Giving and helping are some but others could be a personal goal, travel, health, financial etc. his website is https://100things.com.au/ great story.
Then day one unexpected I received the Yellow jersey. There are five coloured jerseys for the night. 1st tour and I received the Yellow one. Everyone was so proud of me and I couldn’t believe it myself.
Well I think I should roll in a night but tomorrow will bring a great day of riding and community event ahead. Thanks amazing people for your support as I couldn’t have done this without you !
Send you all my love
