Week 13 of 24 Training and Fundraising Update

Another week passes so quickly and after almost four weeks of annual leave, it’s time to go back to work tomorrow.

This week was my first week of ‘specific’ training after 12 weeks of base building and included a couple of back to back long rides and some efforts at a higher heart rate on the hills. I also took on ‘The Wall’ at Otford today for the first time, a 2.8km climb that starts at around 20 per cent for the first few hundred metres, very challenging. The best part about taking on this hill was that the rest of the hills in today’s ride felt a lot easier then normal. Over 145km today there were 1,968m of ascent, a new personal record! The legs are definitely looking forward to rest day Monday.

Total distance for the week was also a new personal record at 502km and a handy 8,519 calories burnt. Hopefully that will get me closer to a climbing weight 🙂

Fundraising was reasonably quite this week, but a few more donations and I am now just over $24,000 raised. Returning to work this week will enable me to follow up some of the corporate’s who have indicated an interest in donating and get the momentum rolling again.

In some sad news, one of the patients my father met during his hospital visits (refer week 8 blog), Cecil Rayner, passed away this week. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.

There is now only 75 days to the tour and the specific training continues this week, which will have to be done a little earlier than recent weeks (unfortunately).

Have a great week. Cheers Woody
