Week 21 of 24 Training and Fundraising Update

Hi, my name is Andrew Woodward and I have a problem, last Thursday due to the wind in the morning I didn’t go out for my planned 90 minute ride. For the entire day I was like a bear with a sore head. In the evening I jumped on the rollers and did 75 minutes of solid spinning and suddenly the world was a better place. I have been advised this morning that I have cyclingitis, a disease that is spreading at a fairly rapid rate amongst MAMILs, although Owen thinks I have a fairly severe case 🙂

I have been feeling really tired and sore this week and the final hour of today’s five hour ride was a visit to the hurt locker, everything was hurting. In the end I think it was a good trial of what is ahead at the tour, so no complaining.

Yesterday was something new, two rides of two hours with a few hours in between to simulate a part of the tour that we haven’t trained for to date, the stopping and starting. It was an interesting experience, made more difficult by the massive headwind I rode into for half of the ride. Might have explained why the legs felt so heavy this morning.

A total of 421kms and over 7,700 calories burnt for the week. Only a week of solid training to go before we start to taper. Really looking forward to the taper, some easier rides and some extra sleep, woohoo.

This week my fundraising total went past $34,000. I have a few more corporate opportunities to pursue this week which hopefully will push me closer to the magic $40,000 milestone. Everyone in the TDC family is ramping up their fundraising activities to meet their targets which are creating lots of banter and excitement among the team. It was great to be introduced via email to most of my team mates in the Vittoria team this week, looking forward to getting together and sharing what will be an incredible 10 days.

Cheers

Woody
