Week 11 of 20 Training and Fundraising Update

In the past week we have gone inside the final 10 weeks until tour and it is now only 68 days to the start of our tour journey. In the past week TDC has announced that to ensure the best application of funds raised there will be one tour riding from Adelaide to Melbourne. One of the benefits of this decision is that we are likely to have tail winds for the majority of the riding which will be very helpful.

The last week after returning from a week in China for work has been very positive for fund raising. Some deposits at the end of the week have seen my tally go past the $20,000 mark with some momentum starting to build. There is a good chance that deposits in the next 2 weeks will move the tally past $30,000.

The initiatives I mentioned in earlier posts have progressed in the past week, and a new one has been added. A corporate contact has agreed to hold fund raising BBQs at each of their building sites in the month of March and match the funds raised which is amazing. Looking forward to getting to some of the sites and spreading the word about TDC’s goals. The main results of these efforts will be realised in March, will make the last month before tour reasonably exciting as we see how close I can get to the goal of $100,000. Don’t forget every dollar counts, I am grateful for any donation.

Training this week has again been focussed on hills in preparation for 3Peaks, although it certainly isn’t hurting my tour preparations. A total of 375km and over 4,200m ascending which isn’t too bad given two of the sessions were on indoor bikes and therefore no ascent meters. The long ride of the week today was 115km and over 1,800m ascent – the new favourite rider, the double dipper. With only 3 weeks to 3Peaks the next couple are going to be crucial in finishing off the fitness before heading in to a week of taper.

Below is a photo from Woronora Dam which featured in a ride this week. One of the benefits of spending long periods on the road is you get to see some amazing parts of the country.

The next week will include the longest training ride so far, 165km and over 3,000m in ascending through the National Park, which should be a good barometer of where I am at for 3Peaks – a ride they tell us this week is in the top 10 one day cycling challenges in the World!!!!

Till next week.

Cheers, Woody
